A total of 50,863 Primary 6 pupils sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year, of which 5,473 were from the EM3 course.

This year’s Primary 6 cohort has seen a decrease of 464 pupils (or 0.9%) over the 2003 cohort.
All pupils sat for English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue except for pupils in the EM3 course, who sat for Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics and Basic Mother Tongue or Mother Tongue.
In all, 49,557 pupils (or 97.4%) have been assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. Of these pupils, 61.9% are eligible for the Special or Express course, 22.6% for the Normal (Academic) and 13.0% for the Normal (Technical) course.
There are 1,306 pupils (or 2.6%) who are assessed to be not yet ready for secondary school in 2005 or more suited for vocational training.
Of these pupils, 1,095 will be given another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their basic language and mathematics skills. The remaining 211 pupils, who are over-aged, will be enrolled in basic vocational training courses.
Eligible pupils will receive their option forms to select secondary schools from their respective primary schools today (24 Nov 2004).
Parents are reminded to submit the completed option forms to their children’s primary schools between 24 Nov 2004 and 29 Nov 2004 from 9 am to 3 pm (including Saturday, but excluding Sunday).
The Secondary One posting results will be released on 22 Dec 2004. Pupils are to collect their results through their primary schools on 22 Dec 2004, and report to their posted secondary schools on 23 Dec 2004.
