Home > Update following earthquake and tsunami

Our overseas missions continue to work closely with the local authorities to contact and assist Singaporeans in the areas affected by the tsunami on 26 Dec 2004.
We have been able to make contact with about 400 Singaporeans in Phuket. Our Consular team on the ground is assisting Singaporeans wishing to return to Singapore.
About 300 Singaporeans in the Phuket area remain uncontactable but we are continuing efforts to establish their whereabouts and to assist them.
We continue with our efforts to contact over 100 Singaporeans reportedly stranded in the affected areas in Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Myanmar and Indonesia.
So far, we have confirmation that a Singaporean has died in Sri Lanka and another in Phuket. Fourteen other Singaporeans are missing in Phuket and two in Aceh.
Relatives and friends of Singaporeans who were known to have travelled to the disaster-stricken areas and have not been able to contact them can call the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 24-hour Duty Office (Tel: 63320000) to give details of their possible whereabouts.
