DRAGON BOAT INCIDENT IN CAMBODIA - RETURN
OF NEXT OF KIN AND BODIES OF THE DECEASED TO SINGAPORE |
|
Arrangements have been made for the Next of
Kin (NOK) who have been in Cambodia to return to Singapore today. |
|
The NOK have requested that the bodies of
the five Singaporeans be transported back on the C-130 that was sent to
bring the SAF Search and Rescue team and equipment home. The SAF was
able to accommodate this request and the C-130 will be arriving in
Singapore later this evening. |

Bodies Of All Singaporeans Recovered |
|
The bodies of all five Singaporeans missing
since Friday 23 November 2007 have been recovered. |
|
They have been identified as Mr Chee Wei
Cheng, Mr Jeremy Goh Tze Xiong, Mr Stephen Loh Soon Ann, Mr Reuben Kee
En Rui and Mr Poh Boon San. Their family members are presently in
Cambodia. |
|
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our
Embassy in Cambodia will make the necessary arrangements for the
repatriation of the bodies to Singapore. |

In response to media queries on the
Singaporeans reported missing in Cambodia the MFA Spokesman said: |
|
"The next of kin of the five missing
Singaporeans have arrived in Phnom Penh. They have visited the site of
the accident. They are being briefed by the Cambodian authorities and
our Ambassador in Cambodia on the ongoing search and rescue operations.
The SAF has sent a team of eight from the RSN's Naval Diving Unit to
assist the Cambodian authorities in their search and rescue efforts. The
team consists of a Mission Commander, six divers and a medic trained in
underwater rescue. The team arrived in Cambodia this afternoon at 1720
hrs Singapore time. They will conduct sonar scanning this evening as
part of the ongoing search and rescue effort." |

In response to media queries on the
Singaporeans reported missing in Cambodia the MFA Spokesman said: |

"The search and rescue operations are
ongoing and the search circumference has been widened. The
families of the five missing Singaporeans have been contacted and
MFA is assisting with arrangements for family members to travel to
Cambodia. The 17 Singaporeans who were rescued were treated for
minor injuries, discharged and are now resting in their hotel
rooms." |

Singaporeans Missing in Cambodia |
|
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
the Singapore Embassy in Cambodia are working with the local
Cambodian authorities in the search and rescue operations of five
Singaporeans who are missing after their dragon boat capsized as
they were rowing back to the starting line at the end of the
Cambodia-ASEAN Traditional Boat Race. |

Our Ambassador in Cambodia is at the
location. The Singapore Civil Defence Force has been informed and
is helping by providing advice on search and rescue operations to
our Embassy. |
